Expanding Our Product Lineup to Frozen Vegetables — Beginning the Search for New Sourcing in India | ABCD Inc.
ABCD Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo; Representative Director: Shiono) visited India from late May through early June to explore new sourcing options for frozen vegetables. On this trip, we visited the factories of multiple manufacturers handling a wide range of frozen vegetables, including frozen corn, broccoli, and okra.
Why India, Why Now
In recent years, factors such as yen depreciation and shifts in global supply and demand have made it increasingly difficult to procure these frozen vegetables from traditional sources. Against this backdrop, we have been receiving a growing number of inquiries from Japanese business partners asking whether it might be possible to secure alternative sourcing in India. These visits were undertaken in direct response to those requests.
A New Supplier Is Something We Verify With Our Own Eyes First
When working with a new supplier, ABCD makes it a priority to first visit the site in person and assess the manufacturing facility and the products themselves with our own eyes. This is how we determine whether the quality meets the standard we can confidently offer to our Japanese customers.
During these visits, we directly assessed production equipment, quality management systems, and the condition of the products themselves. We also engaged in frank discussions with local staff about the quality standards and specifications required by the Japanese market. As a result, we were able to identify manufacturers and products we can introduce to our Japanese customers with full confidence.
Still Exploratory — Yet India's Potential Is Clear
Frozen vegetable sourcing remains at an exploratory stage for us at this point. Even so, we came away with a renewed sense that India holds a significant number of promising suppliers that have yet to gain recognition in Japan.
ABCD is expanding its product lineup from frozen potatoes into frozen vegetables. Rather than simply procuring and selling products, we are building reliable supply relationships through careful on-site verification, step by step, so that we can continue to bring new sourcing options to our Japanese customers.
